BENAULIM: Our Lady of Gloria Church, Varca blanked Our Lady of Merces Church, Colva 5-0 and emerged champions in the Altar Servers Benaulim Deanery Football Tournament, organised by Minority Organisation of Goa (Christian) in collaboration with Benaulim Deanery and played at Dando-Benaulim ground, on Saturday.
For Varca, Chris Mendes netted a hat-trick, while Jayden Carvalho and Hayden Fernandes netted a goal each to make it 5-0. The following were the individual prizes:
Emerging player of the match: Haden Carvalho of Our Lady of Gloria Church, Varca; Man-of-the-Match: Jairus Pereira of Our Lady of Gloria Church, Varca; Player of the tournament: Kane Fernandes of Our Lady of Merces Church.
Fr Eremito Coutinho, Chaplain of Our Lady of Patrocinio Chapel, Benaulim was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Donato Crasto, Joaquim CF Gracias, Fr Milagres, Fr Manuel Fernandes, Keith Gracias and other dignitaries.
