MARGAO: Our Lady of Health High School, Cuncolim outplayed Assumpta Convent High School, Sarzora 5-0 to move into the final of the Union of Chinchinim Villagers Junior Cup under-14 inter-school football tournament organized by Union of Chinchinim Villagers, at church ground, Chinchinim, on Thursday. The winners were leading 2-0 at half time.
Our Lady of Health dominated the proceedings right from the start and could have taken the lead in the very fourth minute through Ivan Fernandes but the latter’s powerful grounder hit the crossbar and went out of play after an assist from Alister Fernandes.
There after, Our Lady of Assumpta had a go in the ninth minute through Myron Ferrao’s header but his effort was fisted away by the goalkeeper of the Cuncolim school after an assist from Figo Fernandes.
However, Our Lady of Health took an unlikely lead in the 12th minute as Terence Rebello’s fierce shot took a deflection of a rival defender and entered the goal. They extended the lead in the 14th minute as Ivan Fernandes gave finishing touched off a pass by Trimson Fernandes.
Crossing over, Assumpta Convent tried to make a come back into the match with Figo Fernandes marching ahead dangerously but his move was foiled by the rival defence.
Finally, Our Lady of Health scored their third goal in the 41st minute through Ronaldo Simoes’ delightful curler that crashed into the rival nylons of an assist by Luefen Fernandes.
There after, they scored again in the 43rd minute through Bipin Fernandes’ header after receiving a fine cross by Alister Fernandes. Two minutes later, it was 5-0 after Ivan Fernandes unleashed a rasping half volley.
