VERNA/AMBELIM: Vasim Inamdar hogged the limelight in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports’ football tournament on Thursday scoring five goals in a junor boys qualifying match at Father Agnel’s ground, Verna.
Vasim’s stellar show powered Our Lady of Perpetual Succour HS to a 7-1 victory over Fairyland High School.
Hat-tricks by Sachin Gaude and Yuvraj Gaude too stood out as Manandu G Nail Memorial HS routed Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ponda 11-1 in another junior boys qualifier at Verna. Manandu’s victory margin was the biggest of the day which witnessed 11 games spread across the junior and senior boys categories.
Nigel Fernandes was the other hat-trick hero as Assumpta Convent HS flew past Manovikas English Medium School 6-0 at Ambelim ground.
Jolvio Fernandes and Vihal Kholkar too enacted lead roles helping their schools notch identical 1-0 wins over their opponents. Jolvio’s 14th minute strike was enough for Our Lady Mother of the Poor to edge out Bethany Convent at Ambolim in a junior boys match. At Ganeshpuri Sports Complex, Government Higher Secondary School, Khandola senior boys rode on Vihal’s last-minute strike to down Government High School, Sanquelim in the most keenly contested match of the day.
