PANJIM: Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School showed their opponents Assagao Union High School no mercy in the junior boys’ quarter-final league with a 5-1 victory, at the Fr Agnel’s Ashram ground, Verna, on Tuesday.
The Cortalim side were never short of aggression as they were efficient in their build ups from the flanks and down the middle breaking down the Assagao defence with sharp passes and quick raids. They packed a punch up front where Nicklas Noronha opened account for them as early as in the 7th minute and followed it up with another neat finish three minutes later to get the boys pumped up.
Assagao never recovered from this early double setback and even before they settled down OLPS struck twice within a span of three minutes (23rd and 25th minute) through Rayvan Pereira and Vasim Inamdar to leave their opponents reeling under pressure.
Fortunately for them, the OLPS boys stepped off the gas and struck just once in the second half, in the 45th minute through Kanaiya Kamti before Rohan Chowhan pulled one back for Assagao in the 59th.
In another quarter-final encounter of the same division, Rueben Castellino came to his school’s rescue by finding the net in the 60th minute as Progress High School sneaked past Holy Spirit Institute 1-0.
