PANJIM: Om Pravin Barde, student of St Britto High School, Mapusa with an ELO of 1394 won the first Late Dr Shambu Dhulapkar All-Bardez Open Rapid Chess tournament, organized by Bardez Taluka Chess Association in collaboration with Sridora Caculo College of Commerce and Management studies, Khorlim-Mapusa, at the Saraswat College Library, Khorlim, recently.
Om was awarded Rs 1,200 and a trophy. The second place was secured by Yash Prabhu, student of Dona Leonar Memorial High School, Porvorim Bardez. He won Rs 1,000 and a trophy.
The third place was won by Snehal Suraj Naik, student of New Goa GS Amonkar Vidya Mandir, Mapusa. She received Rs 900 and a trophy.
A total of 52 players participated in the tournaments which included 12 FIDE rated players.
The winners from the fourth to 10th spot included HS Taneha, Bhargava Bhatkurse, Sairaj Ghosarwadkar, Paarth Prashant Salvi, Sania Prashant Salvi, Srujan Bhatkurse and Bhargav Chari respectively.
The Best U-7 were Girija Pednekar and Parth Govekar.
Best U-9 were Sayuri Naik and Darsh Sawant. Best U-11 were Aryan Naik and Aryan Arolkar.
Best U-13 were Anuragh Adwalpalkar and Madhusudan Hasbe. Best U-15 were Vaishnavi Ghosarwadkar and Manali Potekar. Best veteran player went to Anil Patil from Assonora and the youngest player award went to Pratnesh Malvankar from Mapusa.
Chief guest Gurudas Dhulapkar, Director of Bardez Baazar and Mapusa Consumer Co-operative Society gave away the prizes to the winners.
Earlier, President of Bardez Taluka Chess Association, Vishwas Pilankar welcomed and later, treasurer Sachin Arolkar proposed the vote of thanks.
