Mumbai outfit ONGC finally registered a 1-0 win against Viva Kerela in the round nine tie of I-league at Sahu Maharaj Stadium, here, on Friday.
This being their first win of ONGC under Subrata Bhattacharya who seems to work fine with the team.
The match though started with both the teams trying to get the possession of the ball but today it was the ONGC team who overpowered their opponents as they not only created chances but were able to score that crucial winner which helped them score their first three points in the league.
After a goalless first half the ONGC team came back with renewed zest and energy and didn’t allow Viva Kerela to break into their defence. Bhattacharya started with their striker Badmus Babatunde and Surajit Bose upfront with N D Opara in the bench and later in the first half ONGC did try and create chances but were unlucky to not be able to score. Viva Kerela’s Charles Dzisahdid played his part well but he didn’t get complete support of his team.
B Babatunde, Surajit Bose and Opara all three created chances in the second half but failed to convert them. But it was Opara who scored the winner just before the final hooter went off when he got a pass from Bikash Jairu from the right flank and he sent the ball into the post.
