ONGC for better show against Salgaocar
HERALD CORRESPONDENT
Margao, Feb 25: Debutants Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) Mumbai are hoping for a better performance from their away match when they take on an upbeat Salgaocar Sports Club in the 4th I-League at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Sunday. They came to Goa with a single point agenda of retaining their spot in I-League.
ONGC have 11 points from 15 matches and coach Subrata Bhattacharya will be hoping that his strikers find the scoring boots.
The Mumbai outfit is keen to snatch a point. “We don’t want to lose this match. We will be happy with a win but if not, at least a draw,” Bhattacharya told Herald on Friday.
Being experienced campaigners, Bhattacharya is aware of the fact and is cautious. Salgaocar proved their worth in this year’s League by staying at the top. “It is their home match and I have been involved in the periphery of the relegation zone and we need at least a point to get the momentum going in order to avoid the drop,” said the ONGC coach. “We have been playing well but tend to lose focus and momentum. The players require to stay focused throughout. I have full respect for Salgaocar’s coach Karim Bencherifa. He transformed a bunch of talented players into a cohesive unit,” concluded Bhattacharya.
