VERNA/AMBELIM/MAPUSA: Oscar De Souza’s hat-trick spurred Vasantrao Dempo Higher Secondary School of Science, Commerce and Arts to an emphatic victory in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament, on Friday.
Oscar scored all his goals in the first half for Dempo who led 6-0 at the break, and eventually romped to a 10-0 win over Shri Vijayanand Higher Secondary School in a senior boys qualifying match at the Ganeshpuri Sports Complex.
Lakesh Gawas also played a significant part for the winners, booting two goals.
Vasant Nagvekar was the star in the junior boys qualifiers notching a hat-trick in St Aloysius High School’s 6-2 victory against Smt Kamlabai Hede High School at Father Agnel ground, Verna.
Pratham Shirodkar too excelled for the winners scoring two goals while Sanket Kamat stood out for Kamlabai with his double strike.
Holy Spirit Institute also registered a big win on a day when eight matches were played in two categories. Harsh Patre and Mevan Dias, who scored two goals each, were the stars for Holy Spirit as they routed Bhatikar Model High School 7-0 at Ambolim ground.
Rushikesh Gaonkar’s 34th minute strike was enough for Cuncolum Convent High School as they got past Perpetual Succour Convent High School 1-0.
Auxillium, St Xavier’s, Marina English and Shanta Durga, Bicholim too had it good cruising to convincing victories in the other matches of the day.
