RAIA: Our Lady of Rosary HS, Fatorda defeated Loyola HS, Margao 2-0 in the final of the Fr Peter SVD Memorial football tournament, played at SVD Seminaryground, Damon Raia, on Sunday.
Both teams started the match on the front foot. In the 3rd minute, Loyola’s striker, Rui Noronha had his move foiled by Beckham Dias, the defender of Fatorda. In the next minute, Jordan Borges of Fatorda moved forward with the ball but his movement was cut short by a tackle made by the rival defender. Loyola had the chance to take the lead in the 6th when Richie Fernandes missed a sitter.
Rosary took the lead in the 40th minute through Micheal Dias’ glancing header off Jordan Borges’ cross. Rosary further extended their lead by 2-0 through Jordan Borges’ placement shot in the injury time .
The winners were awarded Rs 20,000 while runners-up pocketed Rs I5,000
Alex Reginald Lourenco, MLA of Curtorim was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of the ZP member Fatima Gauncar, Arnold D’Costa, Anthony Pango, John D’Silva Executive members of GFA members and other dignitaries.
