Over 350 athletes to participate in Goa triathlon

PANJIM: The Goa triathlon, a team and individual event, will be held on February 21, at Bambolim beach.
The event is organized by Enduro Sports Goa, comprising of Elias Patel, a long distance swimmer and well known Radio Jockey and Joseph Rodrigues, President of Traditional Karate Association of Goa and Vice President of the Goa Cycling Association.
Enduro Sports Goa strongly believes in promoting community based sporting events in Goa, creating awareness for health and fitness in society as well as lending a hand to the underprivileged. Triathlon is a specialized Olympic sport involving a combination of swimming, cycling and running. 
This year’s edition of the Goa Triathlon will see over 350 participants compete for the coveted title. Participants come from different parts of India like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Delhi and other cities. International participants will be coming from countries like Switzerland, Russia, Spain, United Kingdom, USA, Hong Kong, Australia and Argentina.
A large part of the proceeds of the Goa Triathlon will be handed over to the renowned charity Cooj in continuation to their Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention Campaign.
The types of races include individual and team olympic event for Men and Women swim (1.5 km). Swimmers start from the beach, swim out 700m, swim 100 meters across and 700 mt back to the beach.
The next challenge is the 40 km bike event which starts from the Bambolim beach resort to the top of Bambolim slope and then, do laps of a circuit – All India Radio junction – University library circle.
The 10km run will start from Dr Shyama Prasad Stadium to Odxel junction and the finish at Bambolim Beach Resort.
The distances for super sprint event for Men and Women are a quarter of a regular Olympic Triathlon and are designed keeping amateur athletes and weekend enthusiasts in mind. The distances for this event are 400m swim, 10km cycling and 2.5km running.
