CHICALIM: As part of their ongoing Community Outreach Programme, Salgaocar Football Club took a step forward in their unique campaign of holistic development and physical education through football, by conducting a special physiotherapy workshop and lecture at Chicalim Panchayat Ground, on Sunday.
Physiotherapist Jeremy Hunt, is visiting from Australia and has completed his Masters degree in Physiotherapy and Allied Medical Sciences from the University of South Australia. He is a Member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
In his lecture, PT Hunt stressed on the importance of physiotherapy and how it can help in the prevention as well as rehabilitation of various types of injuries. “Physiotherapy is an integral part of a player’s life. Any kind of muscle stress and pain can be dealt with ease through such therapy. A little bit of joint exercise daily can solve a lot of our body problems and relieve body stress too,” said PT Hunt has integrated his experience as a former professional dancer and Pilates instructor with Physiotherapy methodology to combine methodologies from all these fields to improve musculoskeletal health and injury prevention.
PT Hunt spoke to the parents and the children about the science behind Physiotherapy and also demonstrated few exercises that would help strengthen them for a pain-free life. Jeremy’s Physiotherapy and Pilates approach is based on a collaborative effort with the client. “I strongly believe that determining the environmental and biomechanical causes, along with the anatomical or pathological source is key to forming a diagnosis. A management plan is formed with client involvement and with the goal of full resolution (where possible), or forming a self management strategy,” he explained.
“Rehabilitation typically includes education, strong manual therapy techniques, dry needling, advice, real time ultrasound and Pilates based exercises,” he added.
PT Hunt has a firm belief that increasing body awareness in clients to improve movement strategies is critical to complete rehabilitation.
Speaking on the occasion, Salgaocar FC General Secretary Adlear D’Cruz said, “This year in addition to football training, we have tried to educate both the parents and the children about overall health and fitness. It’s very important to create awareness among the youngsters and their parents about the importance of Physiotherapy to ensure a full recovery and prevent injuries from recurring or affecting the child’s future growth or playing career”.
Salgaocar FC will bring down the curtains on their 2017-18 Community Outreach programme on Sunday, March 11th.
The final session of the COP will witness the V.M. Salgaocar Osteopathy team led by Dr. Peter Fishman from SALT Health Solutions Australia, who will run an interactive and dynamic warm up session with parents and children before the activities planned for the day.
The session will be derived from current evidence on warm up and cool down pre and post heavy physical activity.
