PANJIM: Pablo Erat and Nisha Madgaonkar claimed the top spot in the Men’s and Women’s Olympic Individual event at the third annual Goa Triathlon, at Bambolim Beach Resort, here, recently.
The Goa Triathlon, organized by Enduro Sports Goa, is the only triathlon in India with an open water swim, a cycling and running course which is completely closed to vehicular traffic.
Ronny Schrijvers and Madhurjya Borah secured the second and third places in the Men’s event while Chitra Nadkarni and Shilpa Phadke had to be content with the second and third positions in the Women’s category.
The event saw over three hundred and fifty participants compete in three different categories, namely the Super Sprint, the Olympic Individual and the Olympic Team.
This year’s event saw over forty women compete.
Thirty eight international athletes from countries as varied as Argentina, Switzerland and Hong Kong competed in the various categories.
A significant portion of the proceeds from the event was donated to COOJ Mental Health Foundation, a renowned charity associated with mental health and suicide prevention.
Prizes worth Rs 3,00,000 were sponsored by GTDC.
The event was flagged off by Vero Nunes, owner of Bambolim Beach Resort. Hydration Support was provided by the Indian Army while medical assistance by Manipal Hospitals and water safety was managed by Drishti.
The winners in the various categories are as follows.
Olympic Individual Men: 1st Pablo Erat (02:11:22), 2nd Ronny Schrijvers (02:25:47), 3rd Madhurjya Borah (02:35:26).
Olympic Individual Women: 1st Nisha Madgaonkar (03:08:55), 2nd Chitra Nadkarni (03:29:04) and 3rd Shilpa Phadke (03:29:31).
Olympic Team: 1st Akshay, Ganeshh, Ganesh (02:11:17), 2nd Marushka, Fredsan, Fransisco (02:14:02) and 3rd Satish, Nikhil, Vikram (02:16:19).
Fastest all women’s team: Elvina, Gitanjali, Ayesha.
Super Sprint Men: 1st Dhiraj Sawant (00:41:49), 2nd Raghunath Mali (00:42:58) and 3rd Amit Kadam (00:45:56).
Super Sprint Women: 1st Srivani Y V (00:58:31), 2nd Pritismita Baruah (01:18:00), 3rd Nadia Dias (01:22:06).
