MARGAO: Panchwadi United Sports Club prevailed over Wilred Leisure Sports Club 4-3 via tie-breaker to storm into the finals of all-Goa Varca Panchayat Cup inter- village football tournament, organized by Varca Sports Club, at Varca ground, Thursday. Both the teams were tied 1-1 at lemon break.
The game was played at fast pace, Panchawadi who created couple of opportunities in the opening session looked better side and forged ahead in the 13th minute when striker Samson D’Costa punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
Stunned by the reverse, Wilred Leisure regrouped quickly and neutralized the lead three minutes later when Mario Mascarenhas outpaced his markers and beat the rival goalkeeper with clinical finish.
Post resumption, Panchawadi were more aggressive and created a couple of scoring opportunities, as they tried to keep possession and control of the ball in the midfield.
In the ensuing penalty shoot out, Aroon Almeida, Daisy Godinho, and Devendra Gaonkar were on target for Panchawadi while Nickson Castana and Vicky Cardozo converted for Wilred Leisure.
Panchawadi goalkeeper Rupesh Kamat was adjudged man-of-the-match award. Panchawadi will meet Calangute in the finals on Sunday.
