Panjim Footballers down YBT; Churchill Brothers, Guardian Angel SC draw

MAPUSA: Panjim Footballers SC registered a 4-2 win over Young Boys of Tonca SC in the Goa Professional League, held at Duler stadium, here, on Wednesday.

Panjim Footballers opened their floodgates in the very 5th minute, with Crespo D’Souza latching a rasping 25-yard right footer which crashed into the back of the nylons past the outstretched hands of YBT custodian U-21 Karl Menezes, 1-0.

At the other end YBT had two chances to level terms but skipper Harshad Naik’s stiff grounder was saved by Panjim’s custodian Pratik Kankonkar while Yadav Rahul tap from close was pushed for a corner by the goalkeeper.

In the 18th  minute, Panjim Footballers almost netted their second goal but a strong header by Richie Vaz was stylishly collected by YBT goalkeeper.

After exerting tremendous pressure the capital side pumped in two more goals with Arpan Subbha giving finishing touches to Ajay Raj M spadework 2-0 in the 33rd minute and in the 42nd minute. Ajay made it 3-0 with his individual brilliancy.

Early in the second session, YBT lost a glorious chance to pull a goal where Harshad Naik header from close was blocked by keeper Pratik for a corner.

While YBT did most of the attacking it was Panjim’ Footballers that netted their fourth goal in the 70th minute through substitute Prasil Kankonkar.

When it looked it was curtains down for YBT they scored two goals in the added time through substitute Saivish Singh and Yadav Rahul.

Panjim’s Ajay Raj M was declared man-of-the-match, who received the award from Anthony Francis Vaz, GFA’s executive comitteee member.

In another fixture, Churchill Brothers and Guardian Angel SC battled to a 1-1 draw at Nagoa ground. Haokip provided the lead for Churchill Brothers, later equalized by Clifton Rebello. The evenly contested match unfolded with both sides displaying determination, culminating in a shared point each.
