MAPUSA: Panjim Footballers scored a fluent 2-0 win over Holy Cross Arambol in the GFA’s First Division League match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday.
At halftime both teams were locked in a goalless draw.
It was the Panjim outfit that dominated the entire proceedings, pinning the Arambol colts in their own backyard.
In the 32nd minute the Panjim side came teasingly close to taking the lead however Gautam Dias saw his header bang the Arambol horizontal bar. Five minutes later into the match, Panjim were once again denied from scoring by the horizontal bar when Daryl Costa’s long range effort kissed the woodwork and went out of play.
Panjim Footballers did not waste any time after crossing over and broke the deadlock in the 47th minute when Daryl Costa sent a diagonal pass to Akiraj Martins who coolly slotted the ball home to make it 1-0.
Daryl almost added his name to the scorers list however his blistering shot from the edge of the box sailed inches past the Arambol goal.
Panjim doubled their lead in the 57th minute of play when Daryl set up Harshad Naik right inside the 18-yard box who after beautifully controlling the ball finished off in style, 2-0.
In the 64th minute of play Arambol keeper did well to thwart Akiraj Martins in a one to one situation. At full-time the scoreboard read 2-0 in favour of Panjim footballers.
