MAPUSA: Panjim Footballers grounded Penha de Franca Sports Club 3-1 in a GFA’s Second Division League State play-off match at Duler Stadium, here, Wednesday. The winners led 1-0 at half time. 
Clifton Fernandes gave Panjim Footballer’s the lead in the 30th minute while Jason Fernandes equalized after the hour mark. However, skipper Jesus Estrocio scored the second and then, defender Charles Cardozo headed in from close range to secure a vital win for Panjim. 
The Panjim-outfit exerted pressure on their rivals right from the start. Akeraj Martins missed a golden opportunity in the initial stages but they surged ahead at the half hour mark. Jesus’ flag-kick sailed over the rival defenders and fell to Clifton, whose powerful volley crashed into the nylons, 1-0. 
At the other end, Penha de Franca were struggling to keep up with the fast pace and found it impossible to create any openings. Post resumption, the match settled into a familiar patter as Panjim passed the ball with ease. 
However, Penha de Franca against the run of play in the 65th minute as substitute, Raju Padashi’s through ball found Jason, easily got past keeper Alison Fernandes to slot in the empty goal, 1-1. 
Panjim went all-out and scored their second, five minutes later with Jesus’ scorching right-footer and then, secured three points in the 75th minute as Charles headed in off a cross by Hiisupilu JS.
