MARGAO: Panjim Veterans thumped Tuff Veterans 4-1 in the final of the 1st Fr Agostinho Rodrigues memorial football tournament, organized by Nuvem Veterans, at Nuvem church ground, on Sunday. In the first half, Panjim Veterans led 3-0.
Panjim took the lead in the 10th minute through Ramesh Palkar, who finished neatly after receiving a through pass by Daniel Fernandes.
Three minutes later, Panjim extended their lead as Anthony Pereira found the back of the net off an assist by Victor D’Mello
Subsequently, Anthony secured his brace after giving finishing touches to a pass by Ramesh.
Crossing over, Panjim carried on the same rhythm and Ramesh secured his brace with a grounder off a supply by Victor.
However, Tuff Veterans scored a consolation goal through Augustine Rodrigues off an assist by Bruno Coutinho.
Panjim Veterans were awarded with a trophy and Rs 30,000 while Tuff Veterans had to settle for the runners-up trophy and Rs 20,000.
Fr Caetano D’Costa was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour Fr Salvador Rodrigues, FC Goa’s Romeo Fernandes, Delhi Dynamos’ Francis Fernandes and other dignitaries.
The individual prizes were awarded to Best player of the tournament Ramesh Palkar, Best defender Daniel and Best forward Allwyn Pereira.
Nuvem Veterans president Xavier Gomes welcomed while Damaio Colaco compered and Constancio Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks.
