Papaya Boys clinch maiden title

CANACONA, SEPT 28 Participating for the first time-ever in a football tournament, Papaya Boys from Yedda-Cotigao, a remote area in Canacona Taluka, became victories in the 1st edition of Constancio Memorial 7-a-side football tournament organized by SFX Club, Bhatpal.

Participating for the first time-ever in a football tournament, Papaya Boys from Yedda-Cotigao, a remote area in Canacona Taluka, became victories in the 1st edition of Constancio Memorial 7-a-side football tournament organized by SFX Club, Bhatpal.
Papaya Boys who have no playground in their village, displayed unusual stamina and power to outclass other seasoned teams on the way to becoming proud 1st time winners the very first time they were taking part in a football tournament in Canacona Taluka.
Twenty teams from all over Canacona took part at Mokhardmoll, Bhatpal on Sunday.
Papaya Boys defeated Tsunami Boys of Palolem 1-0, with the goal being scored in the first half by Uday Velip, who incidentally bagged the prize meant for first scorer of the finals. His teammate Ashok Velip added another feather to their team’s cap, after he was judged best player of the tournament.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, Papaya Boys got the better of SFX Boys, Bhatpal 2-1, while Tsunami Boys pipped St.Sebastian Club, Loliem 1-0.
Chief guest, Poinguinim MLA, Ramesh Tawadkar gave away the trophy and a purse of Rs. 5000 alongwith the mother of late Constancio of Bhatpal and Canacona Lions president, Motesino Fernandes.
Fr. Frankey welcomed. Fr. Vincent Leitao proposed the vote of thanks.
