Pardeshi, Ilavazhaki clinch titles

PANJIM: Former world champion and two-time World Cup winner, Yogesh Pardeshi of Indian Oil lifted the men’s singles trophy defeating teammate K Ramesh Babu 25-10, 25-10 in 33rd Petroleum Sports Promotion Board inter-unit carrom tournament organized by Indian Oil at Clube Tennis De Gaspar Dias, Miramar, here, Wednesday. 

ONGC’s former Asian and national champion, Sandeep Deorukhkar finished third after defeating current national champion, K Srinivas 23-22,16-17,25-17.

In the women’s singles former world champion and two-time World Cup winner, S Ilavazhaki of ONGC defeated Indian Oil’s Khushboo Kumari 25-0, 25-5.

In an all Indian Oil play-off for the third place, promising 15-year old Kajal Kumari defeated defending SAARC champion, Parimala Devi 16-12,14-25,21-9. 

Yogesh and Ilavazhaki were declared Player of the Tournament in men’s and women’s category respectively. 

Results: Men’s singles final — Yogesh, IO beat K Ramesh Babu, IO 25-10, 25-10. Third: Sandeep Deorukhkar, ONGC beat Srinivas, IO 23-22, 16-17, 25-17.

Women’s singles final: Ilavazhaki, ONGC beat Khushboo, IO 25-0, 25-5. Third: Kajal, IO beat Parimala Devi, IO 16-12, 14-25, 21-9.

Sanjay Padhye, deputy general manager, Indian Oil, Mumbai gave away the prizes in the presence of  D V Prasad, manager (sports), Indian Oil; C M Chandrakandan, chief terminal manager, Indian Oil, Vasco; Vivek Satyajit, joint secretary, PSPB and Dilip Sawant, joint secretary, Goa Carrom Association.
