MARGAO: Parish Youth, Nuvem overpowered Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club 3-0 to clinch the South Goa Mc Dowell’s No. 1 Yaari Premier Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Cuncolim Union, at government school playground, Cuncolim, on Sunday.
There was no score at half time.
PY Nuvem started from where they left in the semi-final with their forwards breach the rival fragile defense umpteen times however they were unlucky not to open their goal scoring.
PY Nuvem had a chance in the early moments of the game when Joe Colaco outwitted couple of defenders but his shot went wide much to the disbelief of Nuvem supporters.
At the other end, Sao Jose de Areal SC took time to settle down and had few scoring chances however PY Nuvem defense cancelled out Sao Jose de Areal SC attacks as the midfield intercepted through balls and mounted attacks of their own.
PY Nuvem and Sao Jose de Areal SC went into dressing room without scoring.
Post resumption, PY Nuvem whacked the first goal of the final that in the 39th minute when prolific striker Gammy Costa received the through pass from Jose Colaco and the former made no mistake to punt the ball home.
After conceding the first goal, Sao Jose de Areal SC slowly tried to recuperate themselves as Alvito Moura tried his luck but rival defenders were quick and alert to keep their citadel intact.
In the 63rd minute Jose Colaco found Jerose Olveira in the 18 yard box who showcased immense control as he deceived rival defender and beat the rival goalkeeper Luis Dias with snap shot to give his team 2-0 cushion.
PY Nuvem left no stone unturned when Jose Colaco unleashed a snap shot which crashed into the net sending Nuvem bench in a delirium.
Parish Youth had couple of scoring chances but Inacio Colaco, Joe Colaco and Jerose Olveira misfired from hand shaking distance.
The first goal of the final was awarded to Gammy Costa (PY Nuvem), best midfielder, Inacio Colaco (PY Nuvem), best goalkeeper, Luis Dias (Sao Jose de Areal SC), best forward, Joe Colaco (PY Nuvem)
Fisheries minister Avertano Furtado was the chief guest, Cuncolim MLA RajanNaik, DGM United Spirits Ltd, SurajSrivastava, President of GFA, Elvis Gomes, chairperson, Cuncolim Muncipal Council Lavita Mascarenhas, State Customer Trade Marketing United Spirits, Kshitiji Shetye, parish priest of Our Lady of Health Church Fr Manuel Fernandes and Area Sales Manager, United Spirits Ltd Artemio Silva were present among the dignitaries and presented hand over the prizes to the teams.
Earlier, Prakash Dessai, president of Cuncolim Union welcomed the guests while Arecio D’Souza of club proposed a vote of thanks.
