Parth, Girija U-7 chess champions

PANJIM: Parth Kamat of Ponda Taluka and Girija Pednekar of Bardez Taluka won the Late Taramati Candolkar Memorial State U-7 Chess Championship in open and girls category respectively organized by Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association (TCCA) under the aegis of Goa Chess Association (GCA) and SAG, at the TB Cunha Hall, Panjim, recently.
Shubh Kalagutkar of Mormugao Taluka bagged second place in open while Shriya Patil of Brain Chess Academy, Margao finished second in the girls category.  
Other winners from third to tenth in open are: Atharva Sawal, Parth Govekar, Pratnesh Malvankar, Aarav Kamat, Aarush Fatarpekar, Shreyash Murkumbhi, Ayush Naik and Druv Desai.
In girls categories, from third to tenth are: Arshia Deshpande, Varada Naik, Pushti Bhonsle, Valanka Fernandes, Irka Sarfaraz, Sangita Talankar, Preet Kurtikar and Sanvi Naik.
Altogether, record 60 participants took part. The selected two players in each category will represent Goa at the Nationals to be held at West Bengal in September.
Chief guest Executive Director, SAG Govind Jaiswal gave away the prizes in  the presence of Shekhar Degvekar, Manisha Manerkar, Satyawan Harmalkar, Mahesh Candolkar,  Sanjay Belurkar, Chief Arbiter Arvind Mhamal, Sagar Sakordekar,  Balakrishnan V. Tanay Kaisary, Dnyaneshwar Naik, Prakash Sawant, and Dattaram Pinge. .
