PONDA: Pawn Stars, with 12 points, won the Ajinkya Chess Academy Team Championship held at Shri Krishna Temple, Curti, recently. Avnish Borkar captained the Pawn Stars, while Chinmay Gaude, Sairaj Gaude and Roshni Kerkar were the other team members.
A total of 18 teams (4 players in each team) participated including 4 beginners teams and few invited players from Ponda taluka.
3rd Legend Boys (9 match point) were the runners up. Harsh Kurtikar was the captain while Rohil Gaude, Suyash Naik and Shreyash Gaude were the other team members.
A consolation prize for beginner’s team was claimed by Royal Challengers with Shreyash Magdum as captain and Vidhi Kurtikar, Kavish Gaude and Dwiti Kurtikar as other team members.
Top of the Board prizes: Board No 1: Vrajesh Natekar (5.5 pts) on lots (tie with Mayank Kurtikar and Sathvik Kerkar); No 2: Sarvesh Kurtikar (5.5 pts) on toss with Mayank Gaude; No.3: Pratik Gaude (6 pts); No. 4: Sahil Gaude (6 pts).
In the junior category, Avnish Borkar (5 points out of 5) was the winners while Vidhi Kerkar and Chetan Kurtikar won the second and third prize. Shubham Gaude,
Divesh Priolkar and Pratish Gaude bagged the fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Rehansh Kurtikar won the youngest player.
In the senior category, Sathvik Kerkar (5 out of 5) was the winners while Sopan Dessai and Rohil Gaude won the second and third prize. Vrajesh Natekar and Mayank Gaude bagged the fourth and fifth.
In the Janashakti Welfare Association Member Rapid Chess tournament, Manohar Gaude (3.5 pts) was the winner followed by Vishant Kurtikar (3 points), Narshiv Kurtikar (3) and Ravindra Kurtikar.
Prizes were distributed in hand of chief guest –Krishna Anta Gaude while Sagar Sakordekar, Ponda Taluka Chess Association president was the guest of honour.
