PANJIM: Hanumant Tulsidas Naik and Newton Azavedo were honoured with the State award for Physical Education Teachers for 2016-17 at a function held at Secretariat, Porvorim, on Friday.
Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Manohar Ajgaonkar presented the State awards to Hanumant Tulsidas Naik of Shiksha Sadan, Priol Ponda in the school category whereas in the Higher secondary category, Newton Azevedo of St Xaviers’s Higher Secondary, Mapusa was honoured.
Speaking on the occasion, Manohar Ajgaonkar congratulated the awardees and said that the teachers played an important role in shaping personality of children. “Teachers know they won’t get rich – or even earn the salaries they truly deserve for the invaluable service they provide so that’s the reason I respect the teaching community the most,” Ajgaonkar said.
Ajgaonkar further said, “Today we are getting lots of medals in sports and we have to give credit to the PE teachers as they work hard in giving the coaching to the students.”
Ajgaonkar also requested the awardees to give their guidance so that that we can take Goa ahead in the field of sports.
Addresing the gathering, V.M Prabhu Desai, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs said that it is high time that the management of school, colleges should allowed students to participate in sport activities and also should cooperate with PE teachers.
The awardees also spoke on the occasion.
