MONTE-HILL-BENAULIM: Pedda Boys, Varca defeated Mix Friends of Pedda-Benaulim 8-7 via the tie-breaker to win the 1st-Inter-Benaulim constituency 9-a-side football tournament organised by Mixed Friends of Pedda Benaulim, at St John the Baptist church ground, Monte-hill, Benaulim, on Sunday.
Varcas Joilan long range shot was saved by the Benaulim goalkeeper Jonathan Fernandes in the sixth minute while Anthony of Benaulim missed the chance to score in the 20th minute.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Pedda Boys Varca proved to be better shooters.
The winners were awarded Rs 30,000 while runners-up had to content with Rs 20,000 plus trophies. Viola Pacheco was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners up in the presence of Roland Fernandes, Sarpanch of VP Varca, David Fernandes, panch of VP Benaulim, ,Fr Lucio, parish priest of St John the Baptist, Maria Rebello, ZP Member of Benaulim, Crosly Charlton Lourence former Sarpanch of VP Varca, club officials and other dignitaries.
