CALANGUTE: Penha de Franca thumped Adarsh Yuvak Sangh 2-0 to move into the semi-finals of Honeybee Friendship Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Candolim Sports Club, at Dr. Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim, Friday.
Penha came close to scoring in the early stage of the match. Milind Shinde shot wide off Amar Kinlekar in the 5th minute. Amar’s try went inches over the bar in the 8th minute. Mubarak Shaikh missed off Clyde Dias to put Adarsh in the lead in the 12th minute.
Penha forged ahead in the 14th minute through Dilip Rodrigues who scored off a Clive Fernandes through pass beating Adarsh keeper Soma.
Dilip Rodrigues scored again for Penha in the 23rd minute off Mhableshwar good move to complete his brace.
Trailing by two goals, Adarsh came close to scoring on couple of occasions but failed to find the net.
