PANJIM: Penha de Franca Sports Club edged past Don Bosco Oratory (DBO), Fatorda 6-5 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of 25th All-Goa St Anne’s Festival Inter-Village Soccer tournament organized by Ponda Footballers at Animal Husbandry ground, Curti-Ponda, Wednesday. The teams were locked 1-1 at full time.
Penha de Franca started off attackingly and took the lead after Akshay sent a well-measured cross to Raju Podoskar, who shot past the rival goalkeeper with a deft placement.
Penha de Franca could have increased their lead but Raju’s powerful volley missed the mark narrowly.
At other end, DBO’s Alfred gave a through ball to Michael Faleiro who ballooned over with only the keeper at his mercy. They were awarded a penalty after a rival defender brought down DBO’s Vincent inside the box but Cliff Barbosa ballooned over from the spot.
After resumption, Fatorda started with a renewed sense of purpose but efforts from Vincent, Cliff and Agnelo were parried away by Penha de Franca goalkeeper Naved Almeida.
However, in the final quarter, DBO equalized through Vincent’s neat strike.
In the penalty shoot-out, Raju, Devendra, Amar, Akshay and Naved scored for Penha de Franca while Danny, Clecio, Vincent and Milagres scored for DBO.
Penha de Franca will now meet the winners of Raitura SC and St Mathew’s SC, Azossim on July 21.
