It was Goa Police SC who had the first clear look at the rival goal when in the eighth minute Gulrez Khan sent a long floater to Sachin Chopdekar right inside the danger zone, however the latter’s effort missed the target narrowly.
Minutes later, Gaurav Kankonkar danced his way past the Penha de Franca SC defense only to blast the ball wide from close range.
In the 26th minute, Penha de Franca SC broke the deadlock when Joston Pereira on collecting the ball from Shubham Malvankar charged into the Goa Police SC citadel and unleashed a powerful strike which crashed into the far corner of the goal.
The match took an ugly turn in the 36th minute when Penha de Franca SC skipper Siddharth Shirodkar was given marching orders for double booking, thereby reducing the side to ten men.
Within two minutes on crossing over, Penha de Franca SC could have doubled their lead, however, Sanwil D’Costa saw his strike from the penalty spot being kept away by Goa Police keeper Niklesh Naik.
After several minutes of midfield play Ashok Megheri put Penha de Franca up by two goals when he flicked in the ball on being set up by Raju Padeshi.
In the injury time the winners were further reduced to nine men with this time the referee giving marching orders to Jotesh Palkar.
At Sanquelim ground, Sesa Football Academy registered a fluent 3-1 win over Panchwadi United Club.
Sesa FA started brightly and went into the lead in the 10th minute when Kirtikash Gadekar controlled a cross from Veegan and slotted the ball past the Panchwadi keeper.
On crossing over after much probing finally, in the 60th minute, Josley sent a perfect cross to well positioned Aaran Silva, who coolly tapped the ball into the goal to make it 2-0.
However, Panchwadi colts got the rival defense napping with Jasman reducing the margin with a neat placement to make it 2-1.
Kirtikash, who had opened the account netted the third goal for his team with a power pecked 30-yard right-footer.
