MAPUSA: Penha de Franca Sports Club edged past Nerul Sports Club in the inaugural match of 8th Reira Soccer tournament organized by Saligao Sporting Club at Saligao ground, Tuesday. The teams were locked 1-1 at full time.
Sagar Bhatkande put Nerul into the lead in the 14th minute while their opponents managed to equalize with only two minutes for the final whistle through Melwin.
In the reluctant tie-breaker, Parshuram, Akshay, Amar and Melwin scored for the Penha de Franca Sports Club while only Sainath and Siddarth converted for Nerul SC.
The tournament was inaugurated by Daryl Pereira, chairman of Reira Group of Companies in the presence of Romeo Remedios, former footballer and other directors.
A minute silence was observed before the kick-off in memory of legendary Domnic Soares and Babal Korgaonkar, footballers from Saligao.
