PANJIM: Perpetual Convent High School, Navelim, defeated Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Cortalim, 3-2 to move into the final of Independence Cup – 1St All-Goa inter-school U-17 football tournament organised by Verna Sports Club, at Verna church ground, on Tuesday.
The scoreline was 1-1 at half time. Mohammed Taufique Gunder netted a brace, Vernon Cardozo scored a goal. Edwin Souza and Declan Monteiro scored one goal each for Our Lady of Perpetual Succour.
Mohammad Taufique Gunder of Perpetual Convent High School was awarded the man-of-match award by Assistant Parish Priest of Verna Church Fr Royal Raposo.
In the second semi-final, Mae dos Pobres High School, Nuvem, edged past Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal, 5-4 via tie-breaker to book the final berth. There was no score at full time. Wayne Stalin Colaco of Mae dos Pobres was awarded the man-of-the-match by Laurent Coutinho, social worker of Raia. There was a huge crowd to witness both the matches.
