DAMON-RAIA: Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim pipped Our Lady of Health High School, Cuncolim 1-0 to clinch the 3rd Fr Peter SVD Memorial inter-school football tournament organised by SVD Seminary, Raia, at SVD Seminary ground, Damon-Raia, on Saturday.
Delmon was the hero of the day who got the winning goal from Hayston in the 58th minute.
Our Lady of Health High School came close in foisting the lead Neshwin Martins power-packed by the rival goalkeeper Rohit.
At the other end, Perpetual Convent High School had their chance both Nathan Coutinho and Nathan Pinto troubled the rival defence and came close however the Cuncolim defenders rose to the occasion to keep their citadel intact from falling till the breather.
Post resumption, Perpetual Succour Convent dominated the proceedings and had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards squandered from close range.
With time running out both the teams went all out in search of an elusive match winner. Perpetual Convent High School scored the match-winner in the 58th minute through Delmon who nicely headed home giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper off Hayston’s assist.
Earlier Elvis Gomes, president of GFA was introduced to the teams by Fr Joaquim Fernandes , Rector ,SVD Seminary in the presence of Fr Victor Rodrigues . Margaret D Costa, Fatima Gaonkar, Zilla Panchayat member.
Elvis Gomes, Margaret D’Costa, Anthony Pango and Francis D’Souza GFA Executive members all gave away the prizes in the presence of Fr Salvador, Fr Micheal and other dignitaries.
