PANJIM: Pilar Fathers- Sports for Youth Development successfully organised the 3rd Pioneer Hockey Coaching Camp, at Honda High School, Honda, Sattari, recently.
It was a beginner’s level hockey coaching camp and was organised for girls in the age group of 10-14 years. The camp was a collaborative effort with professional level assistance from Hockey Heritage Group Goa, Stars of Sattari Hockey Club, Wanderers Hockey Club, Doha and Honda High School, Honda.
The camp had a participation of 27 girls, all students of Honda High School, Honda, Sattari.
The coaching was led by Technical Director, Alexander Remedios and session plans were executed by two young coaches Brendon Noronha and Gaurav Singh. The session plans for the 10-day of camp had the objective of training the children in a professional manner, while inculcating correct techniques and values of sport at the grassroots level. Each session had a thorough warm up, fun fitness game, basic hockey skills, mini hockey matches, cool down and stretching. The plan was to teach children how to hold a stick, move with the ball, understand the field of play, passing the ball, trapping the ball, learn basic hockey skills, learn the correct techniques of play and get into physical fitness.
The camp was a big success as all the children took the training sessions very seriously. The children would come on the field minimum 15 minutes before time, listened to the coaches attentively and followed each day’s session plan with full enthusiasm.
The children were brought to the Peddem AstroTurf hockey ground, Mapusa on the last two days of camp, to give them an understanding of playing on a full sized hockey field and learning player’s positions on the field.
