MAPUSA: Pilerne Sports Club managed to squeeze past Xetrapal Sports Club 2-1 to clinch the late Shruti Pednekar Memorial Cup, organiaed by Sodiem Siolim SCC, played at Khorier ground, Sodiem on Sunday.
It was Xetrapal colts who took the lead in the first half when Kannaya scored with a neat placement,1-0.
On crossing end, Sanket Jotkar equalised with a smart header1-1. As the match progressed, Anson netted in the 54th minute the match winning goal for Pilerne, 2-1.
The prizes were given by chief guest Michael Lobo, Minister for Ports, RDA, Science & Technology, Waste Management, guest of honour Dayanand Mandrekar and other dignitaries.
Pilerne pocketed Rs 50,000 and trophy while Xetrapal had to be content with runners-up cash prize of Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
Following were the individual awards: Man of the match: Sanket Jotkar (Pilerne); Best defender: Sandly (Pilerne); Best midfielder: Gopal (Xetrapal); Best striker: Anson (Pilerne).
