CALANGUTE: Pilerne Sports Club beat Sangolda Lightning 2-1 via the tie-breaker after a goalless draw to move into the quarter-final of 6th Rusi Daver memorial football tournament, organized by Adarsh Yuvak Sangh, at Saligao Sporting ground, Saligao, on Friday.
After an equal contest in the first half, Sangolda Lightning had better share of exchanges and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but Pilerne Keeper Krupesh kept rival forwards at bay.
Krupesh came up with a smart save off an Alex Alvares free-kick just outside the danger zone. Royston Pereira too had a golden opportunity to put his team ahead but the Sangolda keeper came to his sides rescue.
The winners were decided on penalties as Pilerne got the better of Sangolda Lightning 2-1. Royston Pereira and Reagan Pereira converted for Pilerne while Yogesh Rawool netted for Sangolda Lightning.
