Pilerne SC claim 21st Vagator Soccer Cup

MAPUSA: Pilerne Sports Club were stretched into the tie-breaker before they finally got the better of Parish Youth Nuvem 7-6 to claim the 21st Vagator Soccer Cup 2019, organised by Vagator PYSC , at Ozran ground, on Sunday.
In an absorbing final the teams were locked 2-2 at the end of the regulation time.
It was the Salcete based unit PY Nuvem that forged ahead in the 13th minute, when Nuvem’s Dagley Fernandes got hold of a pass from Francis Colaco and scored with a neat placement.
Pilerne went all out where they not only leveled terms but took the lead.
In the 20th minute, Anson D’Souza sent a horizontal pass from the right flank to Sanket Jotkar who made no mistake in finding the net.
Eight minutes later, Anson D’Souza who was instrumental in the first goal doubled the lead scoring from outside the penalty box.
On crossing ends, the visitors time and again attacked the rival citadel and got their equaliser in the 49th minute with Nicolau Colaco scoring from a corner-kick.
With the match ending in a 2-2 draw the tie-breaker was implemented where for the Pilerne outfit, Yashwant More, Suraj Khautankar, Anson D’Souza, Rayan Pereira and Dwayne Britto scored on target, while Inacio Colaco, Nicolau Colaco, Cedar Colaco and Dagley Fernandes scored for PY Nuvem.
Pilerne pocketed the winners’ prize of Rs 50,000 while PY Nuvem had to be content with the runners-up cash prize of Rs 35,000.
The chief guest Milton Marques gave away the prizes in the presence of Savio Almeida-Sarpanch of Anjuna Caisua village Panchayat and other dignitaries.
