COLVALE: Pilerne Sports Club were stretched into the penalty shootout before they registered a 5-3 win over Nerul Sports Club to clinch the 12th All-Goa Late Pio Jose Goveia Soccer Cup, organized by YSC Colvale and played at Colvale church ground, recently.
It was another disappointing day for the Nerul colts and their die hard supporters who had gathered in large numbers to once again return home with the runner-up trophy. Nerul failed to clinch the trophy after making it to the final for the third time.
At the other end Pilerne outfit who won the protest lodged by Cuncolim Union of fielding Suraj Kauthakar returned home victorious.
It was the Nerul side that went into the lead in the 4th minute of play as Aniket Agarwadekar scored from the penalty spot. Dabolkar was brought down by Ryan Pereria prompting referee Nilesh Vaigankar to point to the penalty spot.
It did not take long for Pilerne to level terms as in the 8th minute a well executed free kick by Royston Pereira hit the upright and entered the goal, 1-1.
Before the breather, Nerul Sports Club lost a chance to further increase their lead, when a fierce strike by Sarvesh Dabolkar rebounded off the crossbar.
The winners were decided via the tie-breaker wherein Royston Pereira, Ryan Pereira, Rajat Chopdekar and Krupesh Bandodkar scored on target for Pilerne colts while for Nerul colts only Aniket Agarwadekar and Akash Banaulikar scored.
