OLD GOA: Stating that the maintenance and utilisation of the stadiums go hand in hand, SAG Executive Director Sandip Jacques stated that the SAG is in the process of chalking out a model for each stadium which will sustain, generate revenue and at the same time provide facilities to stakeholders.
Speaking to the media, Jacques gave hints that the stadiums could be given for commercial purposes while also stating that fees will be charged for usage of the facilities.
“Earlier, it was okay to provide facilities free of cost, but if we have to maintain the stadiums, then it won’t be possible to provide them for free as the maintenance cost is high,” Jacques informed while stating that the operational cost itself would come to around Rs 50,000 to 60,000 per day for each stadium when one considers the usage of electricity, water, AC, generator and other facilities.
“At least the basic cost has to be recovered,” he opined.
When questioned whether the SAG will take the local associations into confidence when chalking out the models, Jacques replied in the affirmative and said that ultimately it is the stakeholders that have to benefit.
“While finalising the model, views of all stakeholders, including local associations will be taken into account,” he said and informed a system will be in place within the next three months.
“Currently we are trying out various models for maintenance and utilisation of the stadiums,” he mentioned and added that whichever model is accepted to the SAG and the stakeholders will be adopted.
