PANJIM: Portais Sporting Club, Panjim started their GFA’s 3rd Division League (Ilhas Zone) campaign with a convincing 6-1 win against United Sports Club, Mardol, at Santo Estevam ground, Friday.
Portais dominated form the very beginning and played in a 3-4-3 formation with Madhu Mandrekar and Shaish Kavlekar excelling in the defence and the midfield was controlled by the ever running Pratap Sawant and Savio Pereira, who both covered a lot of ground and were instrumental in feeding their forwards to score a big win.
Mansoor Khan scored the opening for Portais with the help of Savio Pereira’s through pass. Deon D’Mello increased the lead the very next minute when he headed home a cross from Kiran Keri.
United Sports Club were completely taken by surprise by the two quick goals and went all out to reduce the margin and succeeded through Athilesh Khedelkar, who ran solo and placed the ball in Portais’ goal.
Portais regrouped and entertain the crowd with a good passing game and scored again through Mansoor to make it 3-1.
At half time the score was 3-1.
In the second half, Portais came with renewed vigour and scored three more goals through Kiran Keri , Mauzan Khan and the midfielder Savio Pereira.
