PANJIM: Portais Sporting Club outplayed FC Neura 5-1 in their final fixture of the GFA 2nd Division League to emerge champions of the Ilhas zone, on Tuesday.
Portais Sporting Club were undefeated throughout the tournament as they won six matches and drew one match and topped the table with a total of 19 points.
Portais drew first blood, through a free kick by Elton Godinho in the 18th minute while Piedade Colaco made it 2-0 in the 30th minute.
FC Neura were awarded a penalty when the Portais defender Shankar Gaunder was punished for a hand ball wherein Atish Madkaikar scored in the 42 minute to keep his team in the match making it 2-1, before the teams went into the lemon break.
The second half introduction of Mohit Zalmi and Derryl D’Souza, in place of Xavier and Deepak in attack proved to be too hard for FC Neura defenders to handle as the strikers created havoc in the rival defence time and again.
A good combination play between Derryl, Manjunath and Mohit led to the third goal for Portais SC wherein Mohit in the 58th minute scored through a beautiful placement into the left top corner of the goal.
Shankar Gaunder sent a well measured ball to Manjunath in the 77th minute wherein Manjunath made an explosive run from the centre and made a deft placement in the 88th minute.
