PANJIM: Portais Sporting Club defeated Carambolim Sports Club 2-1 to win the Goa Football Association Third Division League Ilhas zone at Taleigao ground, on Monday.
Playing on equal footings, Portais Sporting Club broke the deadlock in the 16th minute through S Tanwar. The winners led 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, which was a cagey affair saw Y Salekar restore parity for Carambolim SC in the 52nd minute.
The teams fought gallantly displaying attacking prowess and strong defensive game.
Finally, Portais SC managed to regain their lead in the 75th minute through Toppo, which proved to be the match-winner.
Meanwhile, Bhagwati Sports Club humbled Rosarian XI Sports Club 4-0.
The winners led 1-0 at the break as Karan Kholkar put his side ahead in the game in the 17th minute.
In the second half, Rosarian XI put up a strong fight in search of the equalising goal, but they couldn’t convert their chances.
In the final quarter of the game, it was a one-sided affair as Rosarian XI SC were totally outplayed by strong Bhagwati SC who scored three more goals.
Rajesh Kankonkar doubled the account in the 75th minute while Raj Mardolkar scored Bhagwati SC’s third goal.
Babash Shirvaikar scored the fourth goal in the second half injury time to make it 4-0. Bhagwati SC finished third.
