MAPUSA: Porvorim MLA and former revenue minister Rohan Khaute on Thursday submitted representation to Chief Secretary Parimal Rai requesting to take immediate action against Churchill Brother Football Club and stop further release of funds under the scheme.

“I met the Chief Secretary and submitted a representation in black and white stating how the Churchill Brothers Football Club has fraudulently availed grants from State government since 2018 and requested to take immediate action. The government should also recover the money which is availed by the club by submitting false documents,” said the Porvorim MLA.

In the representation, Khaute further requested to investigate the representation made to then Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar by Churchill Alemao in 2017 and to the statement made by Churchill at a press conference that his budget is Rs 9 crore a year to run the club since both amounts are same but none of his balance sheets confirm an amount of Rs 9 crore.

He further stated in the complaint that though Churchill Brothers Football Club have said that 75 per cent of the club players are of Goan origin, the actual figure does not cross 35 per cent as well as that Churchill did not disclose to the State that in spite of taking Rs 3 crore for 2017-18 they secured nineth place in the 10-team I-League and were relegated but managed to get back through the back doors to retain their place in the I-League.

Khaute also requested to initiate immediate action against government officers who have overlooked defraud of the State treasury.
