PONDA: Pratish Gaude emerged as the champion of the chess tournament, organised by Ajinkya Chess Academy, in collaboration with the Ponda Taluka Chess Association, at Shree Krishna Temple, Curti. Siaan Siddesh Kerkar secured the runner-up position.
A notable match in the 5th and final round was between 8-year-old Siaan and the more experienced 12-year-old Pratish, which ended in a draw after a tough battle.
Three players finished with 4 points and the tie-break system determined their final standings. Sanish Ganu Gaude claimed 3rd place, Shubham Shivanand Gaude took 4th place, and Chinmay Gaude secured 5th place.
In the special category awards: best U-11 player: Kavish Gaude, best U-09 player: Divesh Diptesh Kurtikar and best female player: Chaitanya Gajanan Kerkar were the winners.
The tournament saw the participation of 25 players.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by the chief guest, Sagar Sacordekar, president of the Ponda Taluka Chess Association, along with the presence of Siddesh Kerkar, Dr Rakshma Ramdas Temyekar and other dignitaries. Assistant Arbiter Vrajesh Natekar also played a key role in the event.
