Pravin fires Goa Velha SC into semis

CALANGUTE: Goa Velha Sports Club were made to sweat it out for a hard fought solitary goal victory over Sai Avtaar,

Anjuna as they moved into semi-finals of Mc Dowell’s No. 1 Yaari Premier Cup  inter-village football tournament organised by Calangute Association at Calangute Association ground, Calangute, on Saturday.
The match began on an attacking note with both the teams trying for an early goal but their forwards failed to find the net.
Goa Velha SC were lucky to forge ahead in the 25th minute of play through Pravin Naik. Anjuna Keeper Agnelo failed to hold on to Joseph Rodrigues’ shot at goal which went to Pravin Naik lurking around who beat the goal-keeper for a 1-0 lead.
Stung by reverse, Sai Avatar Rama Parsekar had a good opportunity to draw level but he failed to connect a cross from Saprem Diukar.
Another good opportunity was wasted by Nitesh who shot wide off Rama’s connect.  Joseph of Goa Velha could have doubled the lead but he shot wide off mark from close.  Goa Velha Keeper Soma too came to his side’s rescue rushing out in time before Saprem could aim at goal off a combined move by Nitesh and Vinayak.  Goa Velha led 1-0 at half time.
Crossing over, Anjuna went all out in search of the equaliser and came close to scoring very early in the second half but the Goa Velha Keeper Soma was equal to his task saving tries from Saprem Diukar, Vinayak Mulgaonkar and Jesmon Carvalho.
Thereafter, it was Sai Avatar all the way trying to find the equaliser but Goa Velha SC defence stood its ground and trapped Anjuna forwards in off-side positions time and again.
Anjuna created couple of goal scoring moves but their forwards messed it up in front of the Goa Velha SC goal. Saprem Diukar of Sai Avtaar was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
