PANJIM: After three years and almost playing more than 25 games, it was a special moment for Goa’s talented midfielder Princeton Rebello, who finally got his first goal for the FC Goa senior team in their 5-0 win against Jamshedpur FC in the Durand Cup on Friday.
“It’s the moment I had been long waiting for. First goal is always special,” stated Princeton in a brief chat with Herald. Scoring goal wasn’t new for the Betalbatim youngster in the past. He had some of the best goals scored at the National and international level during his junior days. His long range free-kick goal against Bangladesh in the SAFF U18 Championship 2017 was even compared to famous Roberto Carlos strike. However, in the last three years, the lad failed to find the back of the net as a senior.
“There had been many good moments, but I am more delighted that we enter the knockout phase with a commanding win. The team win is more important and I would like to contribute more to my team,” added Princeton. Under Juan Ferrando, Princeton got some deserved game time however, injuries had drawn his limitation in the senior team. But the goal against JFC will surely lit the spark in his football career. For a youngster who has always shown patience, hunger and desire to play and score goals.
“For today’s goal, I would like to thank God. It’s all cause of his blessings and the constant prayers of my family and friends. I am happy that I finally got on the score sheet but I will be more happy when we win the Durand Cup. I will continue to give my best for the team and will try to contribute in my team’s success. Will also ensure that we come home with the title,” added Princeton.
