Progress High School, Sanquelim defeated St Rita High School, Colvale by 139 runs in the Germania trophy cricket tournament organised in memory of late Dr R P Shirodkar at Bandodkar Cricket Ground, Panjiim, on Monday.
Progress High School won the toss and chose to bat, scoring 218 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in allotted 35 overs, thanks to patient innings of 77 not out by Shubam Naik in which he hit 2 boundaries. Shubam was ably supported by Ashraf Ali (2×4) 17 runs, Sunny Kanekar 35 runs and Noushad Khan 19 runs. Bowling for St Rita High School, Prajot Phadte 2 for 40 runs, Paresh Azgaonkar 2 for 25, Snehal Kauthankar 1 for 35 and Niraj Bicholkar 1 for 40.
In reply, St Rita High School all-out for 79 in 27 overs. Snehal Kauthankar 16 and Akhil Bhonsle 16. Bowlers (Progress HS) Rayan Dawaskar 2 for 5, Zuber Ladji 1 for 3 and Nagraj Alpani 1 for 12. Chief guest was Kiran Sirsat, president of Rotary Club (Mid Town). President of Panjim Gymkhana Kishore Angle, sponsor Satish Shirodkar, secretary Sanjay Pednekar and joint secretary Aditya Tarcar were also present.
