PANJIM: ONGC, the 14 time champions are the favourites as the 35th inter-unit Petroleum Sports Promotion Board athletics meet is set to commence from today, at the Bambolim Athletic Stadium, here. The opening ceremony is at 9.30 a.m.
A total of 31 medals are at stake at the three-day event which will attract six teams comprising of around 120 to 125 top athletes from the country.
Five Arjuna awardees and seven Olympians will display their skills at the event. Big names include Amrinder Singh, Om Prakash, Sachin Dala, Shakti Solanki and others.
There are only three events in the women’s category which include 100m, 200m and long jump.
The participating teams are defending champions ONGC, last editions runner-up HPCL, EIL, IOC, IOC AOD and OIL.
