PSPB carrom begins today

MAPUSA: The 33rd Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) inter-unit carrom tournament organized by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) will be held from April 7 to 10 at Clube Tennis De Gaspar Dias, Mira Mar, Panjim.

MAPUSA: The 33rd Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) inter-unit carrom tournament organized by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) will be held from April 7 to 10 at Clube Tennis De Gaspar Dias, Mira Mar, Panjim.
“The event will be conducted in men’s and women’s categories comprising both, team and individual championships. Several leading players including Yogesh Pardeshi, reigning and two-time World Cup champ will be seen in action against Ilavazhagi, Srinivas and other players of repute,” informed D V Prasad, sports manager, IOCL at a press briefing in Mira Mar, Saturday.
There will be eight units taking part – ONGC, HPCL, GAIL, CPCL, MRPL, EIL, Petronet and IOCL which will consist of over 60 participants. “The Goa Carrom Association (GCA) will be helping in organizing the event. The tournament is open for viewing for general public which will also help to create awareness about the sport in the state,” said Dilip Sawant, joint secretary, GCA.  
SS Bapat, executive director, western region, IOCL will be the chief guest for the opening ceremony on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The team championships will be held on April 7 and 8 while the doubles and singles event will be held on April 9 and 10 with the closing ceremony at 4 p.m.  on April 10.
Anil Nagvekar, corporate communication, IOCL and Yogesh Pradeshi were also present.
