MAPUSA: Puducherry rallied from behind to hold Daman and Diu to a 3-3 draw in Santosh Trophy West Zone (Group B) qualifier match at Duler Stadium, here, Saturday.
At the breather, Daman were leading by a goal scored by Egypsio Noronha, who scored his hat-trick scoring twice on crossing over. However, it was a superb come back by Puducherry, who scored through Karunanithi (2) and Sugumaran.
In the evenly battled tie, the teams enjoyed equal ball possession and created some good moves. Egypsio scored in the 45th minute with a brilliant chip into the unguarded goal, 1-0.
Seven minutes into the second session, Daman and Diu netted their second goal, once again through Egypsio, who snatched the ball from Puducherry defender Kanagaraj and made the most of it.
Subsequently, Egypsio netted his hat-trick, who controlled a long floater from medio Siddheshwar and scored past the onrushing Puducherry keeper, 3-0.
Puducherry were down by three goals but did not lose hopes and made their way back into the match. Puducherry next take on Goa on Monday.
