MARGAO: United Club of Benaulim downed Parish Youth, Nuvem 2-1 to cruise into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Basilo Andrade memorial inter-village football tournament organized by A.A.De Majorda, at Musson ground, Majorda, Monday.
Benaulim led 1-0 at the breather and thoroughly deserved the victory as they were the better side. They mounted some incisive attacks and made their intention clear as they went on the offensive from the kick off and thereafter enjoyed the better share of exchanges.
Benaulim went into the lead in the 15th minute when striker Rody Fernandes beat the rival goalkeeper with rasping shot.
Nuvem tried their best to neutralized the lead but could not break the rival strong defence which protected the slender lead.
After the break, Nuvem put up a vast improved display and fired some sorties against the rival goal. Their efforts bore the fruit when Stanley Colaco converted the spot kick after rival defender Santan Fernandes handle the ball inside the penalty area.
Stunned by the equalizer, Benaulim went into attacking mode and found the match winner when Stalin Baptista bulge the net.
