MAPUSA: PVC Association, Parra proved to be better shooters as they edged out St Savio Sports Club, Calangute 4-3 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of GFA’s Third Division League, Bardez Zone play-offs, at Duler Stadium, here, on Monday.
The teams were tied 1-1 after 90 minutes.
St Savio took the lead in the 10th minute through Saish Palyekar’s scorching drive that eventually rolled out of Parra keeper Harichandra Masurkar’s gloves and entered the goal, 1-0.
PVC Association tried hard and almost equalized before the break but Vijendra Shetye’s effort was brilliantly saved by keeper Marshall at goalline.
Post resumption, PVC Association did find the equalizer in the 60th minute through Rowell Pinto, who finished delightfully after receiving a clever assist from Sankesh Harmalkar, 1-1.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, the Parra outfit had the last laugh. The second quarter-final match will be played on November 19 between FC Siolim and Milagres SC, Mapusa, at 3.45 p.m.
