PVC Parra crowned champions

MAPUSA: PVC Parra clinched the Anjuna Caisua Panchayat Soccer Cup title, defeating Milagres Sports Club, Mapusa 4-3 via the tie-breaker in final, organized by Chapora YS, at Chapora grounds, on Saturday.

The teams played out a goalless draw in the regulation time.
In the early moments of the match, Rowell Pinto saw his powerful header ricochet off the Milagres woodwork. Minutes later, Rowell’s second effort missed the target narrowly.
Milagres SC had their opportunities; however Samuel Almeida and Junior Rodrigues were guilty of squandering chances from close range.
In the penalty shootout, Lawrence Fernandes, Rowel Pinto, Stanley Coutinho, Walter Martins were on target for the winners, while Samuel Almeida, Daud, Orvil Fernandes scored for the runners-up.
PVC Parra were awarded a cash prize of Rs 40,000 and a trophy, while Milagres had to be content with a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
Minister for Arts and Culture, Dayanand Mandrekar was the chief guest for the finals and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Anjuna-Caisua VP sarpanch Pratima Govekar, GFA Vice president Lavino Rebello and executive members Patrick D’Souza and Gajanand Kerkar.
